Students from the Bachelor in Development Studies program recently conducted a field trip to Birgunj, visiting Parsa National Park and Maha Gadhimai Municipality to assess community dynamics and logistical systems. Through online surveys, observations, and interviews with locals and stakeholders, the students explored health, lifestyle, and socioeconomic conditions. Despite facing challenges like accommodation dissatisfaction, transportation delays, and scheduling difficulties, the trip provided valuable learning opportunities. The insights gained highlighted the role of infrastructure in education and the balance between development and environmental conservation, equipping students with practical skills and a deeper understanding of Nepal’s development realities.
From December 19th to 22nd, 2023, 51 students from the second and third semesters of the Bachelor in Development Studies (BDEVS) and Development Finance (BDFIN) programs, accompanied by three faculty members, one staff member, and three drivers, participated in a four-day project field trip to Birgunj. Organized by National College, the trip aimed to bridge theory and practice, providing students with hands-on learning experiences while benefiting the local community. The itinerary included visits to key sites such as Parsa National Park, Birgunj Metropolitan City, the Dry Port, Raxaul, Kalaiya, Maha Gadhimai Municipality, and Nijgadh Fast Track. Activities ranged from observing urban planning practices to engaging in research methodology, with a focus on fostering practical applications of academic concepts. Despite logistical challenges, including accommodation dissatisfaction and transportation delays, the trip successfully provided students with insights into real-world development issues, environmental conservation, and community dynamics. This immersive initiative not only contributed to the students’ academic growth but also aimed to positively impact the Birgunj community.
